Young Persons' EDi Champions
for Manchester, Liverpool and the North

WHAT DO WE OFFER
TO YOUNG PERSONS BASED IN MANCHESTER, LIVERPOOL AND THE NORTH?

Our Young Persons Programme is a discrimination prevention initiative that uses acts of rescue and resistance throughout history as a springboard to educate young people on Human Rights and Equity.

The Champions receive training focused on Anti-Racism, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, Neurodiversity awareness and the role of Active Bystanders.

They learn about historical figures to modern-day trailblazers, who are pioneers in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion across a variety of industries, professions and identities. Intersectionality is central to all our training.

The Be What You See Team works with the pupils and their school/college to then design and deliver assembly-style and classroom diversity workshops.

These can be linked to awareness and celebration events in the school calendar such as:

  • Black History Month

  • LGBT+ History Month

  • Neurodiversity Celebration Week

HOW DO WE DELIVER TO ORGANISATIONS IN MANCHESTER & THE NORTH

For schools based within the Manchester and Greater Manchester area, our sessions are held on the top floor space at Manchester Museum, at The University of Manchester.

For schools outside of Greater Manchester, sessions will take place at a venue within the region of which you are based.

The pupils taking part in the programme will spend a total of eight days off timetable across the academic year.

WHAT IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR THIS COURSE?

The programme is primarily targeted at year nine high-school pupils, however, we’re open to other year groups taking part if it’s a better fit for the school.

Our previous Champions have come from all sorts of backgrounds and abilities.

All we ask is that the chosen pupils feel confident enough to build the skills needed to lead workshops for their mates.

As an EDI Champion, I have been inspired by what I have learnt and now feel in a position to inspire others to see the world with the same accepting eyes.
